HAZARDOUS MATERIALS TRAINING COURSES
DOT General Awareness Training
Department of Transportation
The DOT Title 49CFR (172.704) cites the mandatory training requirement for all employees who affect hazardous material transportation safety. Training is required every 3 years with initial training to be received within 90 days of employment/change in job function. If you are unsure of who at your facility requires this training, click below for the DOT’s Definition of a Hazmat Employee. However, the extensiveness of the training may be determined by the level of an employee’s involvement in the overall shipping process.
This course is targeted towards employees exposed to hazardous material shipping, but not directly involved (i.e. may package products that will eventually be shipped). Other individuals who should attend are employees who prepare hazardous material for transportation, employees who load, unload or drive trucks with hazardous material, and employees who sell or send samples of hazardous material.
